A few shows, Mixing the record, and Nx35

While our record has been put in the very capable hands of David Willingham to be mixed we're deliberating what the ablum artwork should look like.
Meanwhile, The Angelus plays a benefit for Denton's Querenicia Community Bike Shop Jan. 30th at Dan's Silverleaf.
Very glad to be part of this: http://qcbs.wordpress.com/
Also, Emil continues to play some solo shows here and there
We'll post some video of that soon.
Finally, we're glad to announce that we'll be playing North by 35 again this year and might have some SxSW day party action going on. Look at Nx35's blog to see all the bands playing this year. Looks like there are some good ones. Speaking of which, we see that our friend Summer Of Glaciers will be traveling from San Francisco to join in on the festivities.
He's got a new record coming out soon and Emil even lent his voice for one track. Looking forward to seeing how Summer of Glaciers holds up in the Texas heat this March.

Our friends at GUTTERTH PRODUCTIONS have been kind enough to include our song on their new comp. This FREE compilation is a collection of songs by some great bands from the Dallas and Denton area. We're very pleased to be part of this. Check out our track and then download the enitre comp here:

We created this track just for this comp in mind and it wont be on our new album. Hope you enjoy it.

Starting a band in Denton, TX is like . . .

Bringing Coals To Newcastle
Before Emil began the Angelus, he and Matt had their first Denton rock experiment called
Coals To Newcastle. They recorded one album but never released it. The band split soon after the recording was completed.
Our friend M. Leer has been kind enough to post the songs to his blog THE DIAMOND AGE.
You can download the album there as well as find some more recordings from Denton bands of yore. Worth a look and listen.

Fred’s Homecoming

We swear this isn’t an intervention or anything, just a celebration of Fred’s return to Texas from the vile state of Kansas (I’ve never been there . . . it’s vile right?). He’s survived the rigors of the military duty including losing half a pinky finger, being kicked by his own horse (broken ribs), and dressing in antiquated cavalry uniform. They also tried to shave his head, but aha, Fred was one step ahead of them. What makes this even better is that we're playing with the Hope Trust and Tre Orsi. Very excited to play with both of these bands. (Matthew Barnhart of Tre Orsi has been engineering our new record for the past several months.) Alright, alright. Just be there.
The Angelus
Tre Orsi
The Hope Trust
Emil will also play a short solo set at Rubbergloves on Sept. 4th before The Angelus plays in Dallas.

Overdub-ious.

Finished recording overdubs this week. Corrected flubs and layered guitar mostly but also added some strings and marimba care of our friends Tamra and the members of Dust Congress. Sounds really great at first blush. We'll see how everything pans out once we record vocals and start mixing. Either way, another big step toward finishing the record.
